World Day of the Sick is observed annually on February 11. It coincides with the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, a day associated with healing and devotion to the Virgin Mary.
In his message for this year’s celebration and in keeping with the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis invites us to become “pilgrims of hope”. He then addresses three particular ways in which God remains close to those who are suffering: through encounter, gift and sharing.
World Day of the Sick gives us a special opportunity to pray for and reach out to the sick and ailing among us, to recognize caregivers and to raise awareness of the many health care challenges facing our world.
