Brigid of Kildare is the patron saint of healers, poets, artists, dairy workers and midwives. One of the three great patronal saints of Ireland, she is also known as a model of equality, an environmentalist and an icon of Christian womanhood.
Interest in Brigid rekindled in the 1990s, and in 2023 the Irish government proclaimed her feast day, February 1st as a national holiday.
