Our Name is Mercy … Our Spirit is Compassion

The Sisters of Mercy is a congregation of religious women who live and minister according to the spirit of Catherine McAuley, their foundress.

The first sisters came to Newfoundland from Ireland in 1842 to extend God’s reign of love, justice and peace through their ministry with the poor, sick, uneducated and oppressed. Today Sisters of Mercy continue their mission of mercy and justice throughout the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Toronto, and in the dioceses of Chiclayo and Cajamarca in Peru. They work in collaboration with others to address the spiritual, physical, economic and ecological needs of our time. Pictured: Right: Sisters Elizabeth Marrie and Maureen O’Keefe
