Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki

This week we mark the 81st anniversaries of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, instantly taking tens of thousands of lives and resulting in an estimated 140,000 deaths by the end of that year. Three days later, the United States dropped an atomic bomb named “Fat Man” on the Japanese city of Nagasaki, killing over 70, 000 people, flattening a third of the city and causing lifelong suffering for the survivors.

Esta semana se cumplen 81 años de los bombardeos de Hiroshima y Nagasaki, en Japón.

El 6 de agosto de 1945, Estados Unidos lanzó una bomba atómica sobre Hiroshima, en Japón, que se cobró al instante decenas de miles de vidas y provocó unas 140 000 muertes hasta finales de ese año. Tres días después, Estados Unidos lanzó una bomba atómica llamada «Fat Man» sobre la ciudad japonesa de Nagasaki, matando a más de 70 000 personas, arrasando un tercio de la ciudad y causando un sufrimiento permanente a los supervivientes.
