Spirituality in Kingston, Ontario
Ministry at Providence Spirituality Centre
Catherine McAuley has been described as a ‘woman who allowed the experiences of her life to speak to her and she listened for ministry out of this discernment;…she was quick to be flexible and quick to respond to need:’
Mary Ann Scofield, RSM “Toward a Spirituality of Mercy”
Whenever she feels called to renew or change ministry Sister Loretta Chafe reflects on the above statement. It is through her experience of the spiritual needs of our times that she felt called to move into the ministry of Spiritual Direction and Retreat work. Providence Spirituality Centre, Kingston, Ontario seemed to be the place to deepen that call.
In September 2009 Sister Loretta began ministry at the Centre. Several directed retreats are offered during the year as well as week-end retreats and day retreats. Men and women come on a daily basis for spiritual direction. Sister Loretta writes:
Is is wonderful to minister in this Sacred Space. We work as a team of six which provides support for our ministry. This is a privileged time for me and I hope when I return home I will be able to continue this type of ministry on a smaller scale. I feel very strengthened by Douglas Steere when he writes:
To “listen” another’s soul into a condition of disclosure and discovery may be almost the greatest service that any human being ever performs for another. Gleanings: A Random Harvest
